Direct price or network CPM

A flat monthly price is not the only way to earn from a banner. Ad networks pay per impression: Carbon Ads quotes a typical $1.20 to $2.30 CPM, and EthicalAds says most publishers earn around $2.50 per 1,000 pageviews. A network needs no selling and fills every month; a direct price is usually higher per view but earns nothing in a month nobody books. Compare both in AdSense alternatives.

How to set your own banner price

  1. Find comparable offersUse fresh published price ranges where enough sites are available.
  2. Check your trafficKeep visitors and pageviews separate when calculating CPM.
  3. Price your audienceDescribe who a sponsor reaches and what placement they receive.
  4. Sell one spot firstOne clear offer makes a useful starting point.
  5. Review bookingsAdjust prices for new bookings when demand supports it.

A worked example

A design blog with 30,000 monthly pageviews:

Hypothetical example: a $150 monthly spot at 30,000 pageviews asks $5 per 1,000 pageviews. Ten booked months bring $1,500 before fees. These inputs illustrate the arithmetic; they are not a market recommendation.
